A Hempstead man was arrested on Christmas for pulling a knife on a Nassau cop.

At around 8:54 A.M. on Dec. 25, Jose Maldonado, 23, of 25 Tyler Place, entered a vehicle parked in the driveway of a residence located on Central and Washington Avenues and then went to sleep. The owner of the vehicle (and residence) notified the police upon approaching the defendant and waking him. When cops arrived on the scene, the subject had fled already left but was located nearby. As the officer instructed the defendant to put his hands up in the air, the defendant pulled a gravity knife from his pants pocket.

The officer then grabbed the defendant’s hand and was able to disarm him with some struggle causing the knife to fall to the ground. The defendant then tried to run away but was subdued. The defendant was found to be in possession of a fraudulent Resident Alien Card and two Social Security Cards bearing different names and numbers.

Maldonado is being charged with Menacing a Police Officer, Possession of a Forged Instrument 2nd Degree, two counts of Possession of a Dangerous Weapon 4th Degree, Resisting Arrest and Disorderly Conduct. He will be arraigned on Saturday, 12/26/09 in First District Court, Hempstead.
