Convicted burglar charged in another break-in

A homeless man who burglarized a Westbury self-service laundry by breaking through a roof vent early Wednesday was arrested soon afterward by a Nassau police officer who recognized him from security camera video of the crime, police said.
Joseph Geslak, 45, had also been wanted on arrest warrants for first-degree sex conduct against a child and leaving the scene of an accident, police said. State prison records show he has three prior convictions for burglary and attempted burglary.
Geslak took about $220 in the 4:52 a.m. break-in at 89 Post Ave., Fourth Squad detectives said.
After an investigation Geslak was charged with breaking into three more businesses this month in Uniondale and Westbury, in each case cutting through the roof or removing a roof vent to enter, police said.
Investigators have videos of Geslak committing all three burglaries, police said.
Tuesday at 2:45 a.m. Geslak pried open a roof vent and entered The Health Nuts, 92 Old Country Rd., Westbury, and stole cash from the register; March 5 at 1:45 a.m. he pried open a roof vent at Dalfar Liquors, 965 Nassau Rd., Uniondale, stealing cash and lottery tickets; and March 3 at 10:28 p.m. Geslak cut a hole in the roof at The Whale Car Wash, 596 Uniondale Ave., Uniondale, and stole cash, police said.
He also faces a charge of false personation after giving a fake name to an arresting officer.
His arraignment on all charges is scheduled for Thursday in First District Court, Hempstead.
State records show Geslak was convicted in 1983 on two attempted burglary charges and was released after serving three years at Elmira, a maximum-security prison. Then in 1991 he was convicted on a burglary charge and served a three-year sentence at the minimum-security Queensboro prison in Long Island City.
