Second Precinct Officer catches GPS Thief. Newsday Coverage.
3 charged in GPS theft

A known gang member and two other men were arrested in Syosset early Wednesday after a police officer pulled over their car and saw what appeared to be a handgun inside, Nassau police said.

The second precinct officer pulled over a small black 1996 Dodge, at around 1:50 a.m.

The gun turned out to be a toy. But in a car search, police found a GPS device that had been stolen from a car in Woodbury, and all three Huntington Station men were charged with possession of stolen property, police said.

The officer pulled over a small black 1996 Dodge, driven by Luis Turcios, 20, at around 1:50 a.m. on Southwood Circle in Syosset. When the officer asked Turcios for identification he was unable to produce a valid driver's license, police said.

All three men reside at the same address, 5 9th Ave., Huntington Station. Luis Turcios, Edgar Turcios, 20, and Nicanoro Ortez, 19, face arraignment Wednesday in First District Court, Hempstead.

Nassau police Second Squad detectives said Ortez is a member of MS-13, or Mara Salvatrucha, a street gang.
