Police say man in Hewlett had 18 fake credit cards

A man arrested in Hewlett for using a fake credit card at a grocery store was later found to have a total of 18 fraudulent credit cards, the Nassau police said.
Michael Pitt, 33, of Brooklyn, was charged with forgery and identity theft after he used one of the fake cards to buy a phone card and a Visa gift card, the police said.
Employees at the King Kullen store at 1765 Peninsula Blvd. called the police at 11:05 a.m. Wednesday and Fourth Precinct police Officer Robert Cohen, who responded, arrested Pitt.
As he searched Pitt during the arrest, the officer found the 18 cards, which turned out to have other peoples' financial information reprogrammed onto the magnetic strips, police said.
Pitt, 33, of 435 E. 92nd Street, Apt. 4C, faces four charges each of felony forgery and felony identity theft, and one charge of felony fraud.
He faces arraignment in First District Court, Hempstead, on Thursday.
