Islanders Tribute to Officer Michael Califano
MYFOXNY.COM - The New York Islanders are paying tribute to a fallen Long Island cop by hosting a special hockey game on Sunday, March 6, 2011.
That day, the hockey team from the Nassau County PBA will take on the Nassau County Sheriff's Department team on the ice at the Nassau Coliseum to raise money for the Califano Foundation.
The foundation is in honor for Police Officer Michael Califano, who was killed in the line of duty in February. Califano was conducting a routine traffic stop along the Long Island Expressway when a flatbed truck hit and killed him.
The New York Islanders are dedicating their game against the New Jersey Devils to Califano. A portion of the proceeds raised from the games' ticket purchases will be donated to the Califano Foundation.
At 11:45 a.m. fans can show support by coming out to see the cops play the sheriffs.
For information on tickets, call 516-501-6763 or see islanders.nhl.com/index.html
