Hunter on boat rescued in blizzard by Nassau Marine Bureau

At about 4:20 p.m. Sunday, the bureau received a call about a hunter in distress. The caller said he twice had heard three rifle shots in quick succession. Three Marine Bureau officers took a vessel out in "white out" conditions to where the gunshots were reported.
Hearing the engines of the vessel, hunter Joseph Albanese got in touch with the crew via VHF radio, the report said. He told the officers that his engine would not start and that he was stranded next to an island near Broad Channel.
Operating in zero visibility, the officers found Albanese, brought him aboard their vessel and safely brought him and his 14-foot long open boat with no protection from the storm in at the East Rockaway boat ramp, the report said.
Police did not issue summonses and did not have a hometown for Albanese, who was not injured.
