Over 100 DWI Arrests on LI Over Holiday Weekend

Nassau County police said they arrested 53 people for driving while intoxicated between 6 p.m. Friday and 12 a.m. Monday, although it was not clear how many people were arrested on Memorial Day itself. Suffolk County police arrested 46 suspects for DWI and driving while ability impaired between 4 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. Tuesday.
One of those include an alleged drunken driver who was accused of driving the wrong way in Ridge, crashing head-on into an off-duty East Hampton Town Police officer. Both men were hospitalized with none-life threatening injuries.
advertisement On the East End, Southold Town Police reporting making one arrested for driving while intoxicated in Greenport and Southampton Town Police said they caught 10 alleged drunken drivers between Friday and Monday.
Two of those were arrested when Southampton police joined forces at a checkpoint between 11 p.m. Saturday and 3 a.m. Sunday with Southampton Village Police and Suffolk County deputy sheriffs, who busted a total of 10 suspects on charges including DWI, drug possession and gun possession.
Southampton police also arrested 16 people for drugs over the weekend, including seven for marijuana and eight others for cocaine, ecstasy, Oxycodone, Xanax, Percoset and Ketamine.
Two suspects were also arrested for selling ecstasy inside Neptune Beach Club. Half of those arrested on drug charges were arrested in the Tiana Beach parking lot.
In addition, Southampton police charged two adults with allowing minors to drink at weekend house parties under the Suffolk County Social Host Law.
Checkpoints were ongoing in Nassau and Suffolk counties through the Tuesday morning rush-hour commute.
It was not immediately clear how many DWI arrests were made by New York State Police, police in the East End townships of Riverhead, Shelter Island and East Hampton or in the nearly 100 villages on LI, many of which have their own police departments.
