Nassau launches Holiday Free Ride Initiative

There are a host of cab companies that are on board with offering free rides to people who drink and can't drive themselves home. People can also get a free ride to their car the next day.

The program is called the Holiday Free Ride Initiative.

So far this year, officials say 21 people from Nassau County have died at the hands of drunken drivers. There have also been at least six wrong-way accidents involving alleged drunken drivers in the past month on Long Island.

"There's no excuse to drink and drive when you can pick up the phone and call for a ride," says Nassau Police Commissioner Lawrence Mulvey.

Those interested can call 516-326-9090 for a free cab ride until Jan. 1.
