Welcome to the Nassau County PBA Webpage!
Thank you for visiting our website! Nassau PBA members are dedicated members of the community who protect and serve the public. The reason we take issue with Newsday is simple. The Newsday editorial board passes judgment on policy and procedures that the police department is sworn to enact. When the Nassau PBA concludes that an editorial is either biased or untrue, Newsday as a matter of policy refuses to publish our response. I’m sure you have read many opinion submissions by people from all walks of life. The citizens of this County deserve to hear both sides of the issues and make an educated, informed decision. That is why the Nassau PBA is compelled to go directly to the public concerning the issues that are important to the well being of all our citizens.
When the Nassau PBA concludes that an editorial is either biased or untrue, Newsday as a matter of policy refuses to publish our response.

Minimum Manning and how it affects the Public we serve.
The Nassau County Police Department has the quickest response time to a 911 call for an emergency. Nassau County also boasts the lowest crime rate of any community of its size. This didn’t happen by accident. The reason for this is simple. Minimum Manning! Minimum manning ensures that if you and your family have an emergency, the response from your police will be immediate.

Less is Not More!
Newsday would have you believe that less is more. If there are fewer patrol cars in your neighborhood, do you think the response time will be as quick when you are in need? It only makes sense that the less police patrolling your neighborhood, the longer the response to your emergency. In an emergency every second counts. The Nassau Police Department has lived by the minimum manning standards since 1982 and been very successful. Now is not the time to decrease police coverage.

Think about how much has changed in nearly 25 years. Don’t let Newsday decide which neighborhood deserves police coverage. You have police professionals who know how to police. Newsday should stick to reporting events that occur, not dictating what your police protection should be.
