Local lawmakers fight proposed cuts to anti-terror funding
Many Long Island lawmakers are putting up a fight to prevent Congress from cutting anti-terror funding to New York.
House Homeland Security Chairman Peter King (R-Seaford) is among those leading the push against cuts. He is also one of the privileged few able to see 67 pictures taken of Osama bin Laden after his death.
King viewed the photos just as House Republicans proposed slashing Homeland Security grants for states and local agencies by more than half. The money goes to police officers, firefighters and other first responders.
Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy (D-Mineola) is also against reduced funding. She says that just because bin Laden is gone, it doesn't mean the threat of terrorism isn't real.
