Pattern emerges in Plainview home-invasion
October 17, 2005, 2:29 PM EDT

Nassau police believe that today's home-invasion in Plainview is linked to recent robbery in New Hyde Park.
In that crime, which occurred on October 9, police arrested Eugene Elmore, 36, of Brooklyn, on July 1. He was charged with first-degree robbery in connection with a June 10 break-in in New Hyde Park. They also got a lead on a possible getaway car and released a sketch of a suspect in that pattern.
Today, three armed men entered a Plainview home demanding money and jewelry, Nassau County police said.
At approximately 3:10 a.m., three men wearing dark clothing and masks and carrying handguns entered a home on Central Park Road and woke up the residents, a mother, father and two daughters.
Police said no one was injured during the robbery. The suspects took an unknown amount of money and jewelry.
In Nassau County, at least 28 break-ins, including the 15 that follow the patterns, have occurred this year prior to the latest case. Last year there were 16 such robberies, but with no apparent patterns.
So far this year in Suffolk, police said there have been 17 cases, but they were unable to provide figures for last year.
In some cases, robbers have injured their victims, police said.
"This is a serious crime with the potential for things to go very wrong," Giambrone said. "We have to put an end to this pattern."
Nassau police and nearly a dozen village police departments have formed a task force to combat the robberies.
Detectives ask that anyone with information please call the Nassau County Police Department at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
