Wantagh benefit set for family of cop in accident

The Nassau County police union has scheduled a benefit next month for the family of injured police officer Kenneth Baribault, who suffered brain trauma and a shattered pelvis in May after an alleged drunken driver plowed into his parked patrol cruiser.

Proceeds from the event, scheduled for Aug. 14 at Mulcahy's in Wantagh, will go toward educational expenses for Baribault's 6-year-old son, Christopher, said Nassau County Police Benevolent Association president James Carver.

The funds also will be used to defray hotel costs for Baribault's parents and sister, who plan to stay near the West Orange, N.J., rehabilitation facility where Baribault is being treated.

For more information or to donate to the Christopher and Kenneth Baribault Benevolent Fund, call 516-294-6230 or visit www.nassaupba.org.

If you would like to make a donation to the family, you could do so by sending a check to:
