Two officers rescue fellow cop from burning car

Two Nassau police officers saved a fellow officer last night in East Meadow after an alleged drunken driver slammed her vehicle into the officer's patrol car -- causing it to slam into a tree and burst into flames, police said.

None of the officers suffered life-threatening injuries.

The officer was pinned in the Chevy, and a fire broke out under the engine hood.

Police arrested Rashel Geiman, 57, of 1751 John St. in Merrick, after the 10:17 p.m. accident. She was charged with driving while intoxicated.

The drama unfolded on Merrick Avenue when the officer from the First Precinct, whom police did not name, was responding responding to a scene in a 2004 Chevrolet its lights and sirens on. Geiman, driving a 2004 Nissan Sentra, was traveling north on Merrick Avenue.

Police said she abruptly turned left at Benjamin Avenue, cutting in front of the Chevy.

The cars collided. The Chevy bounced off the impact and slammed into a tree. The sentra hit a fence.

But the officer was pinned in the Chevy, and a fire broke out under the engine hood.

That's when officers Daniel Ciaccio and Samuel Ferrandino, who are also from the First Precinct, pulled their colleague to safety while other officers put the fire out.

The officer and Geiman were taken to Nassau University Medical Center and admitted.

Geiman is scheduled to be arraigned at a later date.
