Nassau cops plan open house to celebrate 85th anniversary
A weeklong open house will feature demonstrations by the department's canine and mounted units and the arson/bomb squad, assorted exhibits and visits to the 911 communications center, the detention cell and records bureau.
"This exposition is designed to educate, inform and involve citizens of Nassau County to create a spirit of cooperation among police officers and the citizens they serve," Police Commissioner Lawrence Mulvey said in a news release.
The open house will be held daily from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. through May 14 in the parking lot behind headquarters at 1490 Franklin Ave., Mineola.
School tours are encouraged to attend, and no advance reservations are required.
Other activities include the Police Museum, the Kid-Pix Photo Identification Program and a "radar" ball toss for children.
