Nassau Cops Promotion Sends Wrong Message

Nassau PBA chief James Carver said the move "sends the wrong message to cops on the street:

Amid a budget squeeze, Nassau Police Commissioner Lawrence Mulvey has appointed a new $208,700-a-year second deputy commissioner for special projects. Mulvey said he promoted Sgt. William Flanagan, who earned about $170,000 last year, to push programs to reduce gun violence, or track wandering Alzheimer's patients, while he deals with fiscal and staffing issues. Nassau PBA chief James Carver said the move "sends the wrong message to cops on the street: We can still promote high-ranking people while cuts are being made to the patrol force."
