Baribault is still unable to speak after the May 18 crash. Officials say Baribault had pulled over a suspected drunken driver when he was rear-ended by another suspected drunken driver.

Nassau officers say they’ve pulled together in a dramatic way since the accident. “He was just doing the same job we’re all doing,” Nassau PBA President James Carver says. “It could have been any of us.”

Baribault is being transferred to the Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation in New Jersey, but it is unclear how long he will remain there. His family hopes he’ll make a full recovery.
