Traffic-safety law aims to protect officers
A new traffic-safety law going into effect at midnight Jan 01, 2011 across New York State is aimed at keeping police officers safe.
The law, called the Ambrose-Searles Move Over Act, requires drivers to slow down when they see emergency lights, move to the middle lane when possible and pass a police officer's vehicle with extreme caution.
The law is named after an upstate trooper and deputy sheriff killed while making separate routine traffic stops on the side of a road.
